Democratic voters growing in Santa Clara County

Thanks to the efforts of many dedicated grassroots Democratic activists, the latest voter registration numbers show that voters in Santa Clara County are registering Democratic in even greater numbers since the general election.

Total Democratic voter registration in Santa Clara County now stands at 46.45%, Republicans are far behind at just 23.98% and 26.11% of county voters are registered as decline to state. That's right - there are more decline to state voters in Santa Clara County than registered Republicans!

The latest voter registration numbers show that most cities in Santa Clara County are solidly Democratic with only Saratoga and Monte Sereno holding a very narrow Republican edge. Interestingly, with Democrats outnumbering Republicans and decline to state voters in Gilroy, Morgan Hill and Milpitas, it's time to strip the conventional wisdom that these cities are reliably Republican. In fact, Gilroy is as solidly Democratic as Mountain View, San Jose and Palo Alto.

In 2010, District 1 Supervisor Don Gage will be termed out of office thus providing an excellent opportunity to add another Democrat to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. Voter registration numbers from Supervisorial District 1 show that Democrats make up 44%, Republicans at 29.95% and decline to state voters at 22.5 %. With good Democratic candidates who have adequate financial and organizational resources, there is no reason why a Democrat should be denied this critical seat on the Board of Supervisors.
